What do you do at SPT Labtech?
Yaseen Sheik is a Field Application Manager covering India and the Middle East, based in Bangalore. He supports customers across a wide and diverse region, combining scientific expertise with pre-sales support, training, and ongoing application guidance. Alongside his customer-facing role, Yaseen also contributes to regional marketing activities, helping plan conferences and expand SPT Labtech’s presence in key markets.
How did you get started in this field?
Yaseen holds a postgraduate degree in Microbiology from Bangalore University. While his academic background began in microbiology, his career quickly evolved toward genomics, where he developed a strong interest in next-generation sequencing and lab automation.
Starting in one of India’s leading genomics labs, he gained hands-on experience in sequencing workflows before transitioning into automation-focused roles. His curiosity about how instruments work, and how manual processes can be transformed through automation, led him to move from research into application science, building expertise in customer-facing automation solutions.
What does a typical day look like?
For Yaseen, no two days are the same. His role involves extensive travel across India and the Middle East, supporting customers both remotely and on-site.
His days can include customer visits, workflow discussions, training sessions, and planning for upcoming conferences, often all in the same trip. With a large territory and a wide range of applications, Yaseen thrives on the variety and the constant opportunity to meet new people and tackle new challenges.
What’s the best part of your job?
Yaseen’s favorite part of the role is helping customers simplify complex workflows, especially in next-generation sequencing library preparation, which remains a core passion of his.
He enjoys working through customer challenges and finding ways to adapt automation to meet their needs, turning problems into efficient, reliable solutions. The opportunity to explore new applications, from genomics to biopharma workflows, keeps the role both exciting and continuously evolving.
