How long have you been with SPT Labtech?
I joined SPT Labtech in 2022, originally in HR and payroll. Since then, I’ve transitioned into my current role and have been in position for over a year.
What are your main responsibilities, and a typical day look like for you?
I am PA to our CEO, Rob, and I provide support to the Executive Team. My core responsibilities include high-level diary management, coordinating travel arrangements, managing expenses, and supporting the planning and logistics of meetings and events such as board meetings, town halls etc. I act as a key point of contact both internally and externally, helping to ensure things run smoothly.
A typical day usually involves juggling competing diaries, making last-minute adjustments, and being on hand to support with whatever’s needed. No two days are the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about the role.
What’s something about your job that people might not realize?
People probably assume my role is just about scheduling meetings or booking travel, but the role is much more than that. It involves anticipating needs, maintaining confidentiality, and often being the quiet problem-solver behind the scenes. I’m constantly trying to think a few steps ahead to avoid issues before they arise.
What drives you in your role and is the most rewarding part of your job?
I get a real sense of purpose from helping others. I enjoy being that trusted support behind the scenes. I’m driven by a strong sense of ownership and pride in my work, whether it’s making sure a meeting runs without a hitch or finding ways to improve processes.
Knowing that I’ve made someone’s day easier or helped things run more efficiently is very rewarding. Often, the work I do might go unnoticed, but when someone takes the time to say, “I couldn’t have done that without you,” it really makes it worthwhile. I also enjoy working with people across different areas of the business and learning from their perspectives.
How does your work impact your colleagues and/or customers?
I see myself as a bit of a connector, helping to keep communication flowing and making sure that plans and priorities are coordinated effectively. While I might not interact directly with customers every day, the support I provide behind the scenes helps the wider business deliver its best for them.
What’s been your proudest moment at SPT Labtech?
One of my proudest (and busiest!) times was last year, when I found myself juggling not just my HR role at the time, but also covering payroll for UK and Europe while a colleague was on maternity leave and stepping in to support with PA duties. It definitely involved managing lots of spinning plates, and there were times when I thought I might need a clone or at least coffee, chocolate and a pep talk!
Thankfully, I had the support of some brilliant colleagues who helped keep me sane (and laughing) through it all. Despite the challenges, I was proud to keep things running as smoothly as possible and to be someone the team could rely on during a particularly demanding time. It really reminded me that resilience, teamwork and keeping a good sense of humor are key.
Which of the Strategic Pillars / Goals do you think you impact the most and why?
I believe I contribute most to the “Building a Winning Team” pillar. By being approachable, dependable, and creating an environment where things run smoothly behind the scenes. I’m supporting a positive team culture. Whether it’s through helping to coordinate events, supporting communication, or just being a calm, consistent presence, I try to contribute to a culture where people feel supported, respected, and able to do their best work.
How does your team or role contribute to the company’s success?
My role plays a key part in helping the business operate efficiently at the top level. By managing schedules, communications, and logistics. I also act as a gatekeeper, helping to keep priorities on track and supporting alignment across the team. While my work often happens behind the scenes, it directly contributes to smoother operations, better collaboration, and ultimately, a stronger company.
How does your background or culture influence the way you work?
I come from a background where hard work, humility, and reliability were always valued. From a young age it was made clear that if you want something done, you don’t wait around for someone else to do it, you get on and do it yourself. That mindset has really shaped the way I approach everything I do. I was brought up to be resilient, proactive, and to take ownership, even when things get tough.
I take pride in being someone others can count on, and I try to bring a calm, can-do attitude no matter how high-pressure the situation. I also really value building trust and strong working relationships, being respectful, and recognizing that everyone brings something different to the table.
What’s something outside of work that you’re passionate about?
Outside of work, I’m passionate about getting outside and staying active. Two to three times a week you’ll find me at bootcamp (and yes, I’m one of those strange people who doesn’t actually mind a burpee). It’s not just great for keeping physically fit, but is good for my mindset too. I also walk my dog a lot, which is great motivation to keep moving, even on the days when the weather isn’t exactly inviting! There’s something about being out in the fresh air that helps me reset, switch off, and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet.
What excites you about the future of your role?
The opportunity to continue being a trusted part of leadership support. I’m keen to get more involved in improving processes around the office -finding smarter, more efficient ways of working that will support everyone. I’m also learning to think more strategically myself and how I can align my support to make a bigger impact. I enjoy being part of the behind-the-scenes work that helps things run smoothly and look forward to contributing even more to how we operate as a team.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone looking to join SPT Labtech, what would it be?
Be curious, adaptable, and open to getting stuck in, there’s opportunity to learn and grow if you’re willing to put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, offer help, or take on something new—even if it feels outside your comfort zone. And bring a good sense of humour! The people here are incredibly supportive and friendly.
