In this webinar, experts from the University of Michigan, SPT Labtech, and 10x Genomics will showcase how the automation of 10x Genomics’ latest Flex Apex chemistry on SPT Labtech's firefly liquid handling platform changes the game for high-throughput research.
Single-cell RNA sequencing has revolutionized our understanding of complex biology, but scaling these workflows to meet the demands of larger-scale clinical cohorts or high-throughput screens has historically been a bottleneck. Traditional methods suffer from high manual labor burdens, vulnerability to human error, and a lack of scalability.
The Flex Apex assay redefines high-sample single-cell analysis by supporting plate-based multiplexing in 96 wells — a scale previously out of reach for traditional single-cell methods.
Joe Klavitter of the University of Michigan will detail his team's development journey and share real-world performance data. Together with Laura Henry of SPT Labtech and Loruhama M. Delgado-Rivera of 10x Genomics, the speakers will discuss how integrating robust liquid handling with advanced plate-based chemistry dramatically reduces manual touchpoints, ensures consistency, and maximizes data output per run.
Whether you are a Core Lab looking to expand user capabilities or a CRO focused on processing massive, batched sample sets reliably, this session will provide a blueprint for accelerating your timeline, minimizing hands-on time, and maximizing your return on investment.

Joe Klavitter | Senior Applications Developer, Biomedical Research Core Facilities, University of Michigan
Joe Klavitter is a Senior Applications Programmer in Automation Development at the University of Michigan's Biomedical Research Core Facilities, where he has spent nearly seven years building automated genomics workflows at the Advanced Genomics Core. He began his career in pre-implantation genetic screening before moving into automation development. He is the author of the LinkedIn series Automated State of Mind (#WalkAwayScience) and regularly collaborates with partners like SPT Labtech and 10x Genomics to develop automated genomics protocols.

Loruhama M. Delgado-Rivera, PhD | R&D Scientist II, Automation Team, 10x Genomics
Loruhama M. Delgado-Rivera, PhD, is an R&D Scientist on the Automation team at 10x Genomics, currently focused on automating the Flex Apex assay. She previously spent several years on the Flex Gene Expression team, contributing to the launch of multiple single-cell sequencing workflows. Loruhama holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago and brings deep NGS and assay development expertise to her work in lab automation.

Laura Henry, PhD | Senior Field Applications Scientist, SPT Labtech
Laura is a Senior Field Application Scientist at SPT Labtech. She received her PhD in Biochemistry from Purdue University with research focusing on terpenoid biosynthesis and metabolic engineering in plants. She has experience in analytical chemistry, evolutionary biology, and genomics. Laura is committed to helping customers streamline their workflows for reliable results.
