Instrument storage and relocation

Storing the XL20B

  1.  Be sure to remove any rack adapters from the sorting deck and do not pack any loose rack adapters with the instrument. If the instrument has an analytical balance module, be sure to remove the scale tube holder from under the blue draft hood before packing the instrument. Wrap the tube holder with protective wrap and place in a secure container. This can be secured inside the shipping crate with tape.
  2. Start with the empty shipping crate and place the black foam at the bottom of the crate, followed by the blue foam on top of the black. The rear of the instrument is placed toward the three grooves in the blue foam.

  3. Place the large piece of plastic sheeting across the bottom of the crate. Then, two people should lift the instrument, one on either side, and gently place it into the crate on top of the plastic sheeting. Use additional plastic sheeting to cover the deck of the instrument.
  4. Move the robotic arm (the white cross bar) all the way to the rear of the crate and move the pickhead (the gripper assembly with the teal stripe) to the far-left side of the instrument when facing it.
Use additional plastic sheeting to cover the upper robotic arm and the pickhead.

  5. To pack the instrument with the foam blocks placed in the back corners. These foam blocks
are marked right and left as the left block has a foam insert cut out for the pickhead.

  7. Seal up the crate, making sure to replace all of the screws where indicated by the red arrows on the lid.

Relocating the XL20B

  1. Prior to relocating the instrument, be sure to unplug both the power and USB or serial cables
from the back of the instrument.
  2. Remove any rack adapters or other accessories from the deck of the instrument and move
the robotic arm to the back of the instrument.

IMPORTANT: The robotic arm does not lock into place. Be careful to keep the instrument as level as possible to avoid movement of the robotic arm or pickhead.

 3.  Use two people to lift the instrument and complete the relocation. Be sure to follow regular
safe lifting practices and use a cart when possible.
