Rack Side Barcode Reader Setup - 9.0

Initial Setup

For hardware setup, see “Setting up the Scan side rack barcode reader” in the Instrument Hardware Setup section.

  • Ensure the Cognex side barcode reader is plugged into the correct port on the Scan, the Scan is powered on, and the Scan is plugged into a USB3.0 port on the host PC.
  • Open the Scan software and navigate to ‘Advanced Settings’

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the ‘Open Scan Config’ button.

  • A dialog box will appear (shown below) that warns you that it will close the Scan software to open the Scan Config application. Select ‘Yes’. The Scan Config application cannot be run at the same time as the regular Scan software.

  • A new application window will appear.

    • The Scan unit name, LED SN, Camera, and Offset fields should NOT be changed unless instructed by SPT Labtech support.
  • Select the dropdown arrow under the ‘Side Reader’ section. There should be one option listed is the Scan is detecting your Cognex rack side barcode reader correctly. Select the unit listed and then click ‘Register’.
  • The Scan and Cognex scanner will then be configured. You can close the application and restart the Scan software again.
  • Navigate to Advanced Settings and under the Linear Scanner section, make sure the radio button ‘Use Linear Scanner’ is checked.

    • This will turn on the option in the software. Ensure the hardware is pointed correctly at the intended barcode to be scanned by adjusting the thumb screws on the side of the side barcode reader bracket and aligning the scanner window with the rack barcode.
