Laser scanning imaging cytometry: redesigning cytometry into a format fit for screening
Addressing market needs through innovative product design
SPT Labtech has collaborated with cell biologists since 1997. This enabled us to spot a market opportunity early; a need for a screening system that was as fast as a fluorescence plate reader but delivered higher content cell-based data. In 2000 the first generation acumen® (now in its 4th generation) was developed with laser scanning imaging cytometry (LSIC) at the core of the product design, followed by mirrorball® in 2010 to address unmet needs within immunoassay screening.
Designed for discovery: how our LSIC approach meets the needs of screening
Our LSIC systems bring the benefits of cytometry to the screening environment. Through unique optical design, plus an intelligent approach to data acquisition and analysis, our systems deliver:
- walk-up and use simplicity (no routine maintenance, or cleaning)
- system and data reliability
- individual object recognition
- fast data acquisition
- multichannel detection
- easy to learn software
- small data file generation through smart thresholding
- simple integration with automation
Removing limitations through purpose-built design
acumen Cellista: single point laser scanning through a specialized high depth-of-collection f-theta lens and photomultiplier tube (PMT) signal detection. Enables rapid whole-well imaging of cells and large 3D objects labeled with up to 4 multiplexed fluorophores over an area of 18 x 18 mm.
Mirrorball: single point laser scanning system with an aperture positioned close to a confocal image plane to reject background fluorescence, enabling homogenous assays. The optical path is optimized to reduce light loss for sensitivity and designed to allow the simultaneous capture of several emissions from fluorophores using PMT detection.

acumen Cellista; bringing physiological relevance to screening without bottlenecks
acumen Cellista is designed to deliver greater content than traditional plate readers, but at similar throughputs. It brings improved physiological relevance to high throughput screens through the use of multiplexed cell-based assays from which decision making data can be gained in as little as 2.5 minutes per microplate. This is achieved through an image-based approach that is uniquely approachable for HTS departments, as there’s no requirement for specialist operators nor mountains of data to manage.

mirrorball: removing limitations to expand the possibilities
mirrorball is designed to address the process inefficiencies of ELISA protocols and the throughput challenges of flow cytometry. It’s narrow depth of field imaging enables laborious singleplex ELISA protocols to be streamlined into no-wash, multiplex formats that significantly improve productivity. mirrorball’s no fluidic design permits reliable walk-away automation for
